Last week we got to spend most of our preparation day with Robert and Monica Abel, some of our investigators. Robert is the one who has been investigating the church for almost 4 years now and Monica has just recently warmed up to the missionaries. They are so awesome, they let us use Robert's stones and rock cutting machines to make jewelry and they ordered pizza for us that evening. We just got to spend time getting to know them better. Robert isn't ready to commit to baptism again, but he's getting there. He and his daughter Caylin came to church yesterday! Granted, Caylin only came because it was Elder Vest's last Sunday, but we're still excited about it. President Shumway might even come out to meet him in the next few weeks.
On Tuesday we finally met the Overstreet family. We found out about them through Carneilus, an investigator, whose girlfriend told us her grandma "used to be Mormon." We went to their house and found out that both the grandma and mom are inactive members who haven't been to church in at least 10 years. Their records are still in California so we never would have found them if it hadn't been for Carneilus. And we wouldn't have found Carneilus if it hadn't been for a member referral to his brother Carlos, so it really goes to show how much a referral can do. Anyways, we are starting to teach their whole family. They have six kids, five of who are old enough to be baptized. They are all really willing and eager to get involved in church again.
We gave Michael Jones his own missionary planner and he's been carrying it around EVERYWHERE. There aren't really any other updates on him, but he is doing really well. He is on track to receive the Melchizedek priesthood in February.
On Halloween we got to spend the evening with the Miller family because we weren't allowed to proselyte from 6-bedtime. We had a bonfire with them and three other sets of missionaries from the area.
Everything is going really well here in Van Buren. I'm excited to spend another six weeks here!
