This week, we got to go back to Huntsville for a baptism! It was for Berta, the lady from Guatemala that Sister Obeta and I started teaching. It was so wonderful to see how much she has changed since we met her. She was just glowing. I got to play the piano and give a talk for the service, and afterwards Berta got up and bore her testimony of the church in Spanish. One of the members translated it into English. Berta said that she has had some major trials in her life, but she knows that the gospel is what helped her get through those trials and that it will continue to help her throughout her life.
One of the members of our ward had to go to the doctor
last week for a broken blood vessel in his foot. While the nurse was
washing the blood off his feet, she made an off handed comment about how
she didn't like to wash people's feet. So Brother McBryde, the member,
said "well, Christ washed people's feet!" The conversation turned to
religion and Brother McBryde found out that Lupita, the nurse, has been a
member of the church for a long time but hadn't been back in years. She
was sealed to her husband in the temple but when they got divorced, she
got discouraged and stopped attending church, but had been thinking the
last few weeks about how she really needed to go back. So Brother
McBryde got her information and sent us over there. Lupita made lunch
for us on Saturday, and we just talked and got to know her. Then we read her Alma 33:23.
23 And now, my brethren, I desire that ye shall plant this word in your hearts, and as it beginneth to swell even so nourish it by your faith. And behold, it will become a tree, springing up in you unto everlasting life. And then may God grant unto you that your burdens may be light, through the joy of his Son. And even all this can ye do if ye will. Amen.
We promised her that all the
burdens that had been building up could be relieved if she would make
the decision to come back to church and take the sacrament. Well,
yesterday she showed up to church! Everybody welcomed her with open arms
and the smile on her face was HUGE.
Love,
Sister Boll
