My first (cheat) baptism!
Monday, October 21, 2013
This Saturday we got to be a part of Michael Morgan's baptism. He was raised in the church but his parents, who are slightly less than active, didn't take much initiative on helping him get baptized, so he turned 9 the week before his baptism and it was technically considered a "convert baptism". So we had to teach him all the lessons like an investigator, and he was intervied by our district leader.
The baptism went really smoothly and I got to play the piano for it, along with a baptism that the elders had that same day. Apparently I am one of the only people in our ward who can play hymns, because I end up doing it ALL the time. I think Heavenly Father has blessed me with better sight reading skills, because I don't think I would have been able to do this at home! Yesterday I even got asked to play in the Spanish branch sacrament meeting.
More good news: Michael Jones came to church again this week. We talked to the bishop and he said that Michael is ready to make some big changes in his life, and is going to start preparing to go on a mission. We are selfishly hoping for him getting his call in the next 6 months or so so that we can go through the temple with him! Haha. He got a home teaching assignment and is REALLY excited to start teaching others.
Kandee is starting the "stop smoking workshop" this week. She really wants to live the Word of Wisdom. The workshop is really cool, it incorporates spiritual health with practical things like washing your mouth with cinnamon mouthwash because it helps kill the desire for cigarettes. The Elders have used the workshop and apparently it really works.
The Rowdens are doing really well, too. They have been reading the Book of Mormon as a family. The last time we went over there, Neil (the 15 year old boy) had his girlfriend Ashley over, and she was really interested in the Book of Mormon. She said that her grandma is Mormon but hasn't been to church in a long time and asked us to come visit them!
Yesterday there was this girl at church who just showed up all by herself. We talked to her and apparently she met a guy who lives in Reno who is a member, and they are in some kind of long distance relationship now, and he taught her the first two lessons over the phone. She has been researching the church for the last two weeks and just soaking everything in. It's awesome! But the Elders are going to be the ones to teach her.
Everything is starting to take off just as we are facing the possibility of getting transferred. It's a bummer, but I'm excited to find out what's going to happen next transfer!
